A good makeup artist can change how you feel about a whole evening. A mobile one saves you the travel as well. Instead of booking a counter appointment in town and then sitting on the Central line with fresh lashes, you get ready at home, in a hotel room or at the venue, and the artist brings everything with them.
On GLAM LAB, every makeup PRO sets their own services and prices and shows their work in a portfolio. You compare, choose the artist whose style matches what you have in mind, and book the slot. No chasing quotes over DMs, no waiting a day for a reply.
What you can book
Makeup PROs tend to list a handful of core looks, then add extras such as lashes or a trial. The most requested are:
- Natural and soft glam. Skin-first makeup with light to medium coverage, groomed brows, soft definition around the eyes and a comfortable lip. Ideal for christenings, work events, daytime weddings and headshots. Usually 45 minutes to an hour.
- Full glam and evening makeup. Fuller coverage, sculpted cheekbones, a defined or smoky eye, lashes and a lip that lasts through dinner. Allow an hour to 90 minutes.
- Bridal makeup. Long-wear products, a trial a few weeks before, and a look that holds up through tears, hugs and hours of photographs. Many bridal artists also do mothers of the bride and bridesmaids.
- Photoshoot and on-camera makeup. Makeup that reads well under flash and studio light, with the option of booking the artist to stay on for touch-ups.
- Lessons. Some PROs will teach you a routine using your own kit, which is useful if you want to recreate a look yourself.
Whatever the look, check the portfolio for work on skin like yours. Good artists show range across skin tones, ages and textures, and they won't mind you asking for more examples.
How booking works
It takes three steps, the same as every service on GLAM LAB:
- Search. Choose makeup, your date and roughly where you'll be getting ready.
- Choose. Compare PRO profiles side by side: portfolio, reviews and prices.
- Book. Pick a time that works and the PRO comes to your door.
Once you've booked, send your PRO two or three reference photos and a quick note about your skin. Mention anything sensitive, any reaction you've had to lash glue, and whether you wear contact lenses. It makes the first ten minutes of the appointment far more useful.
Getting your space ready
You don't need a professional set-up, but a few things help the artist work quickly and well:
- A table near a window, or the brightest room you have. Daylight shows the true colour of a foundation.
- A chair at a sensible height. A kitchen stool or dining chair beats a low sofa.
- A free plug socket nearby for lights.
- Clean, moisturised skin and no fresh fake tan on the face.
- A top that buttons or zips, so you aren't pulling anything over your head afterwards.
If several of you are getting ready together, agree the order in advance. The person with the most involved look, or the earliest departure, usually goes first. And for days when you're doing it yourself, our 30-minute at-home glow-up is the routine PROs use on themselves between bookings.
What it costs in London
Each PRO sets their own prices, which you see on their profile before you book. For a sense of the wider market: as of 2026, London mobile makeup artists typically charge somewhere around £70 to £130 for a natural look, £90 to £180 for full glam and roughly £150 to £350 for a bride's wedding-day makeup, with the most in-demand artists above that. Very early starts, peak Saturdays and travel into the congestion zone can all add to the total. We break the numbers down in our mobile makeup artist cost guide for 2026.
Adding hair or nails
Plenty of occasions need more than makeup. Some makeup PROs also style hair. If yours doesn't, you can book a mobile hair stylist for the same morning and let the two of them agree the order. Hair often goes into rollers or a set first, then makeup, then the style is finished. For hands, book at-home nails a day or two before, so a manicure isn't competing for time on the day itself.
Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should I book a makeup artist?
For a weekday or a regular Saturday night, a few days to a week ahead is usually enough, and same-week bookings are often possible. For weddings, book as soon as you have a date, because popular artists fill peak-season Saturdays months ahead. Plan the trial for four to eight weeks before the day.
Do I need to provide any makeup?
No. Your PRO brings their full kit, including brushes, lashes and setting products. If there's a lipstick or foundation you love, have it ready and they can work it in.
Can a makeup artist come to my hotel or wedding venue?
Yes. PROs travel to hotels, offices and venues across London as well as homes. Check that the venue allows outside suppliers, and tell your PRO about parking, concierge or access arrangements in advance.
How do mobile makeup artists keep things hygienic?
Professional artists clean brushes between clients, decant creams and lipsticks onto a palette rather than applying them straight from the product, and use disposable mascara wands and applicators. If you're unsure, ask before you book. A good artist will be glad you did.
What if I have sensitive skin or allergies?
Say so when you book. A good PRO will adjust their product choices and can patch test lash adhesive or a specific product beforehand if you've reacted to something in the past.
How long does a makeup appointment take?
Roughly 45 to 60 minutes for a natural look and 60 to 90 minutes for full glam or a bride, plus time for any touch-ups.
